Behind the Beast at Supanova Brisbane

Dicentium Films was thrilled to participate in the Behind the Beasts: Creatures, Puppets & Make-up On Screen panel at Supanova Brisbane. The panel brought together some of the most talented creators in the industry, offering audiences a unique insight into the artistry, imagination, and craftsmanship that goes into bringing incredible creatures and characters to life on screen.

Sharing the stage with such skilled artists allowed for a fascinating conversation about the challenges, innovations, and collaborative efforts behind the scenes. From the intricate details of creature design to the creative problem-solving required in prosthetics and puppetry, the panel highlighted the dedication and passion that drives this craft.

Toby Barron is an internationally recognised creature designer, puppeteer, and special effects artist whose work has brought unforgettable characters to life. His insights into the design process, building practical effects, and animating creatures captivated the audience and demonstrated the technical skill and creativity required to make movie magic happen.

Verity Fiction is an Emmy-nominated prosthetics and SFX artist, renowned for her transformative character work. Her experience in bringing fantastical and sometimes terrifying characters to life highlighted the meticulous attention to detail and artistry that goes into every makeup and prosthetic creation.

Judd Tilyard, our founder and lead producer, has a long history of supporting imaginative and genre-driven projects. His perspective on bringing complex creative visions to the screen offered the audience an understanding of how collaboration between producers and artists is essential in realising ambitious ideas.

Dicentium Films was also inspired by the enthusiasm of the Supanova community. 

Fans, fellow creators, and industry professionals alike came together to celebrate and explore the magic behind the monsters, making the event a truly memorable experience.

Being part of this panel reinforced the importance of storytelling, creativity, and collaboration in film and television.
